Now the picture here is quite obvious, it is from last year. In my opinion, I don't think we will be seeing it again. Now I do believe that we are putting the best team on the ice but dating back to past Olympics, we have trouble with international ice. When the NHL joined the Olympics in Japan of 1998, Canada did not medal. They ended up losing to Finland in the bronze medal game. The next Olympics they claimed gold in Salt Lake City. At the 2006 Olympics Canada failed to medal again in Turin, Italy. The most recent Olympics in Vancouver, refer to the picture above. Both times Canada played on the big ice, they did not medal. This year in Russia, Canada is faces with the big ice again. Another factor going against Canada is the location. With Russia playing at home, anything but gold will let their country down. Russia has tons of national pride and they are going to do anything to win. With these factors, I say this is how the medals work out:
Gold, Russia: With home ice advantage, arguably the best top 6 and solid goaltending of Bobrovsky, there is no way they aren't winning gold.
Silver, Canada: With what is the best team being iced, they will place very high but not quite get there.
Bronze, Finland: With Sweden injured and solid goaltending, Finland can be quite the surprise.
